CATCH ALL at „Wissenschaft in der Holtenauer / Science & Shopping“

On 05. April 2025, researchers from the CATCH ALL research group presented their work at the “Wissenschaft in der Holtenauer” science event, this year under the new title “Science & Shopping”. As part of the Science summer, “Science & Shopping” connects researchers and local businesses as venues for scientific talks in public places, to promote science communication to the public. The event is organized by KielRegion, the city’s science department, and Die Holtenauer e.V.

As part of this year´s event, Dr. Sophie Steinhäuser and Fatih Yalcin presented the work of the CATCH ALL clinical research unit at the local tea store “Jasmin Tee und Keramik”, Holtenauer Str. 41. In the first part, Fatih Yalcin discussed his research within the CATCH ALL project 2, focusing on lymphoma vs. leukemia, and described the work of the lymphoma cancer registry through an interactive poster. In the second part, Dr. Sophie Steinhäuser explained, which stages a patient sample undergoes in the laboratory during analysis and how the resulting data can help identify the best treatment options for each patient. During both talks, many interested visitors filled the small tea store and were treated to fresh chai tea from the store owner while the researchers answered questions from the audience. “It was wonderful to see how many people attended with such a great interest in our research!” said Dr. Sophie Steinhäuser. “Events like this are an excellent opportunity for us to show the public what research can achieve and its importance for society” added Fatih Yalcin.

Within the CATCH ALL clinical research unit, funded by the DFG, both researchers are members of an interdisciplinary team of clinicians and scientists investigating the molecular mechanisms of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in order to develop new therapeutic approaches for patients across all age groups with this disease.
