CATCH ALL @ „Science & Shopping“
Last Saturday, 18 April 2026, Dr. Sophie Steinhäuser and Dr. med. Fatih Yalcin from the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Kiel took part again in “Science & Shopping” to present the work of the DFG-funded clinical research unit CATCH ALL to the public. “Science & Shopping” brings scientific topics into everyday public settings by partnering with local businesses and creating informal spaces for dialogue between researchers and the public. The event is organized by the KielRegion, the city’s science department, and Die Holtenauer e.V. It is embedded within the EU-funded project “Science Comes to Town” – an initiative to raise awareness of science across Europe.

At the Holtenauer Arkaden, Kiel, in front of the shop Robbe & Berking that kindly hosted the presentation, Steinhäuser and Yalcin outlined the interdisciplinary work of CATCH ALL that combines both clinical and scientific expertise to better understand the molecular basis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). They described the hallmarks of the disease, its development, and how the interdisciplinary team of clinicians and scientists within CATCH ALL works together to improve and personalize ALL therapy and overcome treatment resistance across different age groups. The open setting attracted a steady flow of visitors, many of whom engaged directly with the presenters, raising questions and discussing the implications of the research. Professor Claudia Baldus, speaker of CATCH ALL and executive board member of the University Cancer Center Schleswig-Holstein (UCCSH) said, “The combination of an accessible presentation format and an informal atmosphere facilitates meaningful exchanges and highlights the relevance of translational research in addressing complex diseases such as leukemia.”
