ALLCatchR publication wins HemaSphere Award 2025

The HemaSphere-published manuscript “The Gene Expression Classifier ALLCatchR Identifies B-cell Precursor ALL Subtypes and Underlying Developmental Trajectories Across Age” has been selected for a 2025 HemaSphere Award.

Congratulations to first author Thomas Beder and to all CATCH ALL researchers involved in this collaborative project across subprojects P1, P3, P4, Z, and INF – what a wonderful team effort! The classifier developed in this work provides novel insights into the molecular subtypes and developmental trajectories of B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia across all age groups, supporting future diagnostic precision. Developed together with the Hämatologie Labor Kiel, University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein, Kiel, it gains more and more recognition from both – diagnostic and research labs – worldwide.

The manuscript was recognized for its strong reception in the field, reflected in growing citations, readership, and downloads. The award was presented by HemaSphere Editor-in-Chief Jan Cools at the EHA Congress 2025 in Milan.

Currently, Thomas Beder and co-workers have extended their focus to T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which is still less defined. At EHA 2025, they presented an updated ALLCatchR version which is now capable of identifying 20 molecular T-ALL subtypes.

We are proud to see this work gaining international recognition and thank all contributors for their exceptional effort.

Claudia Baldus, Thomas Beder, and Lorenz Bastian (from left to right) received a HemaSphere Award for being one of the most cited papers in the journal in 2024.
