Wilfried Lorenz Health Services Research Award 2026 for leukemia researcher David Baden
Dr. David Baden, M.D., a resident and clinician-scientist at the Department of Internal Medicine II at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), Kiel Campus, has been awarded the 2026 Wilfried Lorenz Health Services Research Prize.
The jury of the German Network for Health Services Research (DNVF) recognized the publication co-authored by David Baden, titled “Epidemiology, survival, and treatment of acute myeloid and lymphoblastic leukemia in Germany: a nationwide population-based registry analysis”. Using data from all state cancer registries as well as the Childhood Cancer Registry, the study examined the incidence, treatment, and survival of people with acute myeloid or acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the national level. In addition, the study examined socioeconomic factors influencing survival among patients with these diseases.
David Baden conducts research on acute leukemias as part of the diverse research programs at the Research Center of the University Cancer Center Schleswig-Holstein (UCCSH). In addition to investigating epigenetic changes in acute myeloid leukemia, his primary focus is on hematological oncology health services research. The award-winning study is closely linked to the DFG-funded Clinical Research Unit CATCH ALL. CATCH ALL investigates the disease biology and treatment resistance of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) to develop new treatment approaches for patients of all age groups.
The awards ceremony took place on September 23 as part of the 25th German Congress on Health Services Research (DKFV) on the campus of the University Hospital of Cologne.
